Paterva is a small, privately held company located in Irene, South Africa. It’s main business is that of developing information gathering tools and information gathering services. The company has it’s roots in the information security industry. Paterva was started in 2007 by Roelof Temmingh. Paterva developed the product Maltego in partnership with PinkMatter – another South African development company. Maltego was in beta for around 18 month before it went commercial in May 2008.
Roelof Temmingh has been working in the security industry for 15 years. After completing his degree in electronic engineering he worked for a crypto development house for 5 years before he co-founded SensePost in 2000 as technical director. He later headed up the innovation centre where he developed many successful security assessment tools, contributed to several books (such as Aggressive Network Self-Defense, How to own a continent, Nessus Network Auditing) and spoke at numerous international security conferences (Blackhat, Defcon, FIRST, RSA, HiTB, Ruxcon amongst others) At the start of 2007 he left SensePost to start Paterva. Since starting Paterva he spoke at nine international conferences (CansecWest and BlueHat amongst others) - mainly about Maltego, virtual identities, information gathering and social botnets.
Andew MacPherson is the young IT developer at Paterva. Holding a private school education along with a completed Bachelor Degree in Information Science from the University of Pretoria he started with Paterva during 2008 as a developer. Andrew has a natural ability looking and thinking like a criminal and has an unhealthy obsession with information mapping and forensics. He was recently nominated as one of the top 200 Young South Africans to watch in one of the newspapers in South Africa, Mail and Guardian.. |
