Is this legal?
Yes - it perfectly legal. Paterva will:
- not engage in any illegal activity like hacking or scanning.
- not try to bypass controls set by the target organization.
- not perform any action that could be consider malicious.
- only perform information gathering using open source, public information that is available to anyone on the Internet.
- only perform active information gathering with a clear mandate from the target organization
Hang on - if all of this information is public why can’t I do it myself?
You can. But, like any skill you’ll have to learn how to do it. Also you will need lots of time and understanding as well as a loads of specialized tools and techniques. If you still feel up to it consider completing our training course.
Why can’t I use Maltego to get this information?
You absolutely can. We use Maltego as our primary tool for getting the information. Lessons learned from the field is inserted back into the tool - making it even better. Keep in mind that some transforms are not suited for public use (think about a portscanner transform for instance). Also - Maltego is like a box of Lego - you need to know how to put the pieces together in order to create something. We’ve found from experience that most people only use 10% of Maltego’s power - this is mostly from a lack of understanding what each transform can provide and a lack of context of results. If you make use of our services you’ll get the Maltego goodness without having to do the work yourself.
