Running a vmware''ed Fedora 8 on a vista box.

When I start Maltego it tells me I''m using an unsupported JRE 1.7.0, when my current JRE is 1.6.0_07 which should work on Maltego yes?

Am I mistaken or missing something? Thank you. I cannot view version of Maltego atm, but i downloaded it yesterday so I assume it is newest.

JRE 1.7..... interesting. Well, Sun''s JDK 1.7 is available for early access and there are other open source java VM implementations that might use a different version numbering than Sun''s JDK. Point is that there is another virtual machine installed on your system that is used to run Maltego. You could check the JAVA_HOME environment variable and see what it points to. Similarly, running "java --version" and "which java" should give you an indication of which VM is invoked by default. (I would really be interested in the outputs of these commands).

To solve your problem you can try the following:

1. Set your JAVA_HOME environment variable to point to the install directory of Sun''s JRE 1.6.

2. If that does not do the trick you can edit the Maltego config file to explicitly point to a JVM to use. Go to the Maltego install directory. Open the file "maltego.conf" in the "etc" sub-directory in an editor. Uncomment the line ''#jdkhome="/path/to/jdk" '' by removing the leading # and edit it to point to the install directory of your JVM.

I hope that this fixes your problem. Keep posting feedback and let me know whether this worked.
